Key Responsibilities

Transport & Transmission Network Planning

  • Design and plan new transmission and access rings.
  • Perform end-to-end routing and service planning for customer connections.
  • Allocate required ports, interfaces, and time slots.
  • Ensure efficient and technically appropriate connectivity between transport and access networks.
  • Optimise the utilisation of network resources and transmission capacity.
  • Monitor network capacity and identify current and future capacity constraints.
  • Analyse routing requirements and network-resilience needs.
  • Identify and implement technically appropriate solutions to address transmission-capacity constraints.
  • Plan transmission solutions based on DWDM/xWDM technologies.
  • Plan IP/Ethernet transport solutions according to service and network requirements.
  • Support TDM transmission planning where applicable.
  • Support optical and fibre transmission planning and network design.

Network Implementation & Commissioning

  • Create switching and implementation orders.
  • Prepare technical implementation and switching documentation.
  • Validate planning information prior to implementation.
  • Support network implementation and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical queries during commissioning.
  • Support transmission-system testing, acceptance, and handover.
  • Coordinate with relevant engineering, operations, and implementation teams to ensure successful deployment.

Network Resilience & Capacity Management

  • Assess network topology, routing, and resilience requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate redundancy and protection mechanisms are considered during network planning.
  • Monitor transmission-network capacity and resource utilisation.
  • Identify potential capacity bottlenecks and develop appropriate technical solutions.
  • Support network expansion and optimisation activities based on capacity and traffic requirements.

Network Inventory & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain accurate transmission-network inventory and connectivity records.
  • Ensure network inventory data accurately reflects the implemented network configuration.
  • Perform network audits for quality-assurance and data-integrity purposes.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between planning data, network inventory, and the physical/logical network.
  • Perform Quality Control in accordance with defined planning guidelines and standards.
  • Ensure planning and implementation documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date.

Education & Experience

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant experience in transmission, transport-network planning, or telecommunications engineering.
  • Practical experience with optical/fibre transmission technologies.
  • Knowledge of DWDM/xWDM, IP/Ethernet transport, TDM, and SDH technologies.
  • Experience with network-capacity planning, routing, and network-resilience design.
  • Experience with network inventory and work-management systems.
  • Experience with IQ Link is an advantage.
  • Experience in a telecommunications service-provider environment is preferred.
