In the ever-evolving telecommunications landscape, continuous improvement and optimization are paramount. This case study delves into a comprehensive project by the Connect44 Netherlands team, initiated in October 2023, with significant scale-up activities in December, aimed at enhancing network performance and integrating new technologies. The project, with valuable support from the Connect44 Romanian team, encompassed a broad spectrum of activities, including resolving long-open tickets, swapping congested transmission links, direct site optimizations, and much more.

Project Inception

The project kicked off with preparatory activities in October 2023, laying the groundwork for a series of strategic interventions designed to enhance network performance. By December, the project had scaled up significantly, with a focus on drive tests and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) checks to ensure network efficiency and effectiveness.

Scope and Objectives

The project's scope was comprehensive and targeted several key areas:

• Resolving long-standing network performance issues (TOPX).
• Swapping transmission links to alleviate congestion.
• Direct optimization of newly integrated sites.
• Reporting and addressing S1 interface issues.
• Detecting and activating blocked or deactivated 4G and 5G cells.
• Coordinating integration activities to prevent performance degradation.
• Optimizing radio parameters, including PCI, Tilt, and RSI.
• Trails and Rollout of new network parameters and features.

Execution and Challenges

The execution of the project was seamless, with all planned actions carried out efficiently without encountering any significant performance issues. However, the project faced high pressure from all stakeholders on the telecommunications teams, highlighting the need for effective communication and coordination.

Outcomes

The project culminated in a remarkable achievement for the network, securing a 2nd place ranking and being rated as "Outstanding". On a global scale, the mobile network was ranked 3rd, surpassing expectations given the ongoing major radio and transport swap programs within the network.

Expectations vs Reality

The project's success exceeded initial expectations, especially considering the challenges posed by three major swap programs. The ability to not only meet but surpass set goals underlines the effectiveness of the strategies employed and the dedication of the team involved.

The project received high praise from the customer, with the project manager of the customer commending the entire team for their exceptional effort and contribution to the project's success.

Team Recognition

This success was the fruit of the collective labour of many, but special recognition was given to all the team members. The Integration and Optimization teams, in particular, were spotlighted for their extra effort in performing all deliverables on top of day-to-day activities.
